The Beverly Hills Hotel Turns 100

When it comes to the timeless Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows, age is just a number. But it deserves a centennial celebration as prestigious as its past guests. Adoringly referred to as “The Pink Palace”, The Beverly Hills Hotel will celebrate its 100th birthday in style (as if it knows any other way) with a program of exciting activities and special promotions.

The hotel opened its doors in 1912, just two years before the city of Beverly Hills was officially incorporated and gained notoriety hosting the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Howard Hughes, John Lennon, and royalty from the world over. Even Marilyn Monroe stayed there during the 60‘s, deeming Bungalow 7 her favorite place to stay. Between the infamous picture of Faye Dunaway slumped in a poolside chair with her Oscar and stories of the Rat Pack getting tipsy at the bar, The Beverly Hills Hotel became synonymous with Hollywood’s power elite.  It was a place where celebs and high-profile show biz types could go to have a good time.

With its beloved Polo Lounge restaurant and private bungalows, the luxury, five-star property provides privacy and tranquility in a residential setting. The nickname Pink Palace derives from the hotel’s iconic pale pink exterior, a soothing pale coral when seen in L.A’s bright sunshine. The hotel reeks of Old Hollywood but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s out of touch: the Beverly Hills Hotel received the 2011 Forbes Five Star Award along with the AAA Five Diamond Award. It was Tatler’s 2011 Travel Guide’s “Most Glamorous Hotel” and also made the Gold List of Conde Nast Traveler’s “The Greatest Hotels in the World”.

In light of its 100th birthday, there will be a life-size photo gallery exhibit in the lobby, capturing memorable moments during the past 100 years. The Beverly Hills Hotel time capsule will also be opened, which was placed at the property’s front red-carpet entrance in 1993. The book “The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows – The First 100 Years” will be launched at the hotel as well. Written by Robert S. Anderson, the great grandson of the hotel’s original owner, Margaret Anderson, the book features a collection of never-before-seen photos in addition to a sentimental reflection of the grande dame of Sunset Boulevard throughout the years.

The Beverly Hills Hotel will also be offering special deals in honor of its centennial for the remainder of the year. The Polo Lounge and Bar Nineteen12 will both offer a “These Walls Are Talking” cocktail menu, featuring drinks inspired by past celebrity guests. And every week, diners at one lucky table at each of the hotel’s dining venues will enjoy “Pop-Up 1912 Pricing”, where their check is converted to 1912 pricing. Select spa services at La Prairie Spa will be priced at $100, including The Pink Palace Manicure and Pedicure, Diamond Anniversary Facial, and the Caviar Express Massage.

Specialty packages are also available like “The Centennial Celebration”, starting at $660, which provides luxurious accommodations for two nights, two complimentary cocktails, a keepsake 100-Year candle and a box of commemorative chocolate truffles plus daily American breakfast for two. “The Little Legends Family Package”, starting at $610 for two nights, is for young guests, featuring a kids’ red carpet arrival with photo shoot and an autograph seeker, a VVIP welcome card, a choice of milk shake or ice cream sundae at The Fountain Coffee Shop, a personalized chocolate star “Walk of Fame” amenity, and an “I’m a Little Legend” 100-year tee-shirt.

The signature banana leaf wallpaper and green and white stripes along with the famous pink exterior are part of what makes the Beverly Hills Hotel distinct, and the visiting stars’ shenanigans are what make the hotel memorable. But witnessing the evolution of the American entertainment industry throughout the past 100 years has made the hotel’s longevity venerable. With events planned and special deals this year, this party too will go down in history joining the thousands of others hosted at thePink Palace.
