Gucci Comes In All Sizes

Summertime is my favorite time of year. Give me a beach, some sunscreen and a cooler stocked with frozen margaritas and I’m good! From June to September, I live for that. Whether sunning on Cape Cod or parasailing in Costa Rica, I’ve got a swimsuit for every destination and endless pairs of sunglasses. I think I own at least 30: aviators I picked up in Paris, vintage frames from an Amsterdam flea market and even a pair I picked up off the street in lower Manhattan for $5 bucks. Like women and shoes, I’m obsessed! This year during my forage for my newest pair I learned that Gucci, one of my favorite brands, was doing sunglasses for kids. How fierce is that?

No longer do the little ones have to endure wearing those cartoonish frames one might find at a big box retailer in the suburbs. No more cheesy plastic frames found on the other side of town where tourists roam. Oh, no, those days are gone. Now it’s all about a slick aviator for boys and a chic, round frame for girls. I immediately thought of my precious little nieces, Chelsea and Cameron, and how cute they’d look in a miniature pair of Gucci sunglasses courtesy of “Auntie Darlene”. I ordered 2 pairs online just in time for our trip to Palm Springs. There we were, Princesses Cameron and Chelsea along with Auntie Darlene lying poolside at the Desert Riviera Resort Hotel: me wearing my vintage Gucci frames and the little ones in their new aviators. Sunny Palm Springs, with all its history and heat, has got to be the best place on earth to sport a fabulous pair of Gucci frames, especially for the consummate sunglass collector like me. Chelsea, Cameron and I rode the Palms Springs Ariel Tramway (in our Gucci glasses), ate at the Palm Greens Cafe (in our Gucci glasses) and even golfed, albeit for fewer than 9 holes, at the Indian Springs Golf and Country Club. That’s right; you guessed it…in our Gucci sunglasses. Can you tell how much I love Gucci sunglasses?Having recently launched its children’s apparel line, Gucci announced the debut of its first collection of sunglasses for kids earlier this year. In addition to the classic pairing of white, black and red, boys can play with light blue and orange, yellow and black or military green and violet while girls can choose from combinations of violet, cherry, pink and orange. They’re available for $140 at www.gucci.com.As we plan the rest of our summer, which may include weekends in New England, Napa Valley, and even New York’s Little Italy, rest assured that little Cameron and Chelsea will be dressed to impress and ready to roll with Auntie Darlene in their Gucci frames.
