Marriott Resort Kauai

A Stay Worthy of a King

When your flight touches down on the island of Kauai you think that you’ve landed in paradise … at least until the taxi drops you at the Kauai Marriott and then you think – this is beyond paradise!

An escalator whisks you past a glamorous tropical entrance downward toward lush tropical gardens.  You hear a fountain gurgling in the distance and suddenly in front of you is an immense pond stocked with the largest koi you’ve ever seen practically jumping out of the water.  The out of the box landscaping is a sign that you’re not in Kansas anymore and as you turn and descend another flight of steps to reception, the sight of a massive ancestral canoe smack in the middle of the room delivers a poignant realization of the unique spirit of the island of Kauai, the “Garden Island” of Hawaii.

Seemingly a jewel in the Marriott’s crown, this property received a $50 million refurbishment in 2010 and it’s obvious. From the utterly chic and understated guest accommodations to the pool, public areas, gardens and restaurants, the property sparkles.   The 356 room resort is nestled on one of the island’s most picturesque beaches conveniently close to Lihue (Kauai’s) airport.  Rooms are decorated with clean, contemporary sophistication, each with a balcony to enjoy the ocean, mountains and gardens. A color palette of light tones with accents of bright pink and orange mirrors the hibiscus and plumeria flowers dotting the grounds.  Baths were also significantly refurbished with stone vanities and extra large sinks.

The centerpiece of the Kauai Marriott Lihue property is of course the spectacular 26,000 square-foot pool.  Fit for Esther Williams, the pool includes five Jacuzzi’s that are intricately set into the design – it’s practically an island waterway. This little bit of paradise in the Pacific takes you a million miles away from your cares and woes and offers optimum relaxation.  There’s also a children’s pool with slide and water spout.  Here’s a fun fact for you:  this is the largest pool in the state of Hawaii!

Hungry?  There are seven restaurants on the premises meaning you never need to leave the property to enjoy an array of cuisines.  The Aupaka Terrace lobby lounge serves breakfast and morning coffee and is situated above the pool with an incredible view.  What a way to start the day.  For lunch and dinner there’s Duke’s (the Kauai branch of the famous Duke’s chain) for some Mai Tai’s, burgers, fresh seafood and a peaceful ocean view.  For breakfast and dinner there’s Kukui’s on Kalapaki Beach,  serving famous Loco Moco for breakfast (a burger and egg over rice with brown gravy) and Pacific Rim and island inspired cuisine with an emphasis on fresh seafood.  The setting is breathtaking.   At the far end of Kukui’s is the sushi bar Toro Tei where the sushi is the freshest and their handcrafted specialty rolls are worth dreaming about.
For a memorable dining experience on a terrace overlooking the sea, don’t miss Café Portofino, where fine Northern Italian cuisine and personalized service set the bar high.  The food and atmosphere here truly bring the charm of Italy to a beautiful Hawaiian setting.A stay at the Marriott Kauai Resort is unforgettable and is one of best examples of why everyone raves that there is nothing like Kauai.  Make this your outpost for discovering the most beautiful of all the Hawaiian Islands.
