Everything’s A-Okay!

Sesame Place Spooktacular The Count

My kids love to watch Sesame Street.  One of my son’s first and favorite toys was a Zoe doll that he slept with and squeezed when he wanted to feel better.  As we strolled through Sesame Place my son spotted Zoe and got to hug her while I snapped their picture together.  The look on his face was something I’ll never forget.  This was one of my favorite things about Sesame Place.  The characters that I grew up with while being taught my ABC’s and how to count are the very same ones that my children have come to know and love.

The Count, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Grover, Elmo – they were all there in real life walking around and available for plenty of photo ops.  Lines formed but they moved quickly and the staff was so great about allowing you to take your own family pictures with the cast.  Also, the characters performed in a parade, which showed twice a day.  My kids loved it.  They watched and danced as their favorite friends traveled along “Sesame Street” on floats.  It was all adorable.

The park is a manageable size, easy to navigate and is as much a waterpark as a theme park, so bring bathing suits.  I couldn’t get my kids out of the Count’s Splash Castle, which had several different sized water slides perfect for both my small children.  The lifeguards were attentive and very kind.

Throughout our visit, the Sesame Place staff remained courteous and caring.  At one point my son insisted on going on Elmo’s World Blast Off, a ride that is the equivalent of a free fall for little kids.  The car brought him all the way up and then dropped him all the way down only to be shot back up again.  Needless to say, as a mother, watching my little four-year old strapped into this ride was a bit unsettling.  I asked the ride attendant several times if he was strapped in okay, in my own paranoid fashion, and she was so patient and went out of her way to assure me he was okay.  And he was, he had a blast! No pun intended.

Sesame Place is located on the fringes of famous Bucks County, about a 90 minute drive (more or less) southwest of New York City and 30 minutes northeast of Philadelphia.  It is a pleasant drive (if you get off the major highway) and the park is easy to find.  If you and your kids can hum the Sesame Street tune, can recite all of the characters names, and enjoy water parks and rides, than this is the place for you.

Tips for Mom

Sesame Place Character

  • Wear your bathing suit under your clothes or with a cover-up so you don’t have to worry about changing.  Also, be sure the kids are wearing flip-flops and water shoes.
  • When you first enter the park, check out the map and look for the daily show times and specials on the back.  If you want to see a show, get there early.
  • The kid’s meals give you a complimentary cup and Cookie Monster bowl.  My kids use these every day.
  • Sesame Place allows you to bring in a small cooler.  Take advantage of this, and bring juice boxes, water and small snacks.
  • According to the Sesame Place website, the best place to watch the parade is the route between the Plaza and the Neighborhood Street (where black meets blue).  I will be there next time.
