The Villa Tre Ville Positano, Italy

Slip Away to Bliss

Italy has often been the setting for romance, spontaneous adventures, and unforgettable moments. With the cool blue sea lapping wide rocky beaches, endless vistas round winding curves, and the sheer dizziness of its vertical towns, the enchanting Amalfi Coast has lured many of the rich and famous from Elizabeth Taylor to Mick Jagger.

The Villa Tre Ville, a boutique hotel located between the town of Positano and Hotel San Pietro, is nestled in the center of the Amalfi Coast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Consisting of four deluxe villas, the property was previously owned by the well known opera and film director, Franco Zeffirelli, and has recently undergone an extensive renovation.  Now, the entire villa is also being offered for private rental and in 2012 it will only be available as a private rental. Up to 30 guests can experience the hedonistic pleasures of the locale for a celebration of any kind:  a group of friends, an extended family get together or even a romantic getaway.

Each villa on the grounds is novel in itself. During the renovation process Zeffirelli assumed his usual role as artistic director not missing one single detail while teaming with the proprietor Giovanni Russo and friend Fausta Gaetani in the architectural makeover. It’s the same for the individual suites, which are named after Zeffirelli’s special guests. All the rooms feature different themes and envelop the guests in bold atmospheres, some decorated with hand painted plates by local craftsmen and glassware from the historic Venetian manufacturer, Venni.

The Villa Azzura showcases a beautiful spectrum of the color blue in the main rooms, with the Diaghilev Suite featuring a collage of seashells and small antiques. The Villa Bianca is crisp with polished white walls and contains the grand Maestro Zeffirelli Suite, complete with drawing room, dining room, three bedrooms (available singly) and several remarkable terraces. Villa Rosa, the smallest, has subtle pink walls and two unique suites. A highlight is the giant shower installed in the Nijinski suite, Turkish themed with warm oranges and reds and a traditional Turkish bath. The fourth villa, Villa Tre Pini, meaning three pines, has five suites. They’re themed from Romeo and Juliet to the Turandot Suite submerging guests into nineteenth century India with oriental colors.

The property is home to lovely gardens with beautiful jasmine, oleander and vegetables such as eggplant, zucchini and tomatoes as well as amoral herbs like basil and rosemary letting you taste a bit of Italy. Stone steps lead down a hill where you will be taken away by the beauty of the sea.

A landing off the steps offers a row of pinstriped beach chairs where you can relax and take in the view.  A charming wooden boat named “San Ferdinando” is moored nearby at a private dock and can be used daily from 10AM to 6PM. There’s also a private helipad.

Villa Tre Ville is an extraordinary place where a day can last forever.
