The Czech Republic is noted for its amazing historic charm and has become a popular destination for travelers seeking to experience one or more of Europe’s summer festivals.
Every year since 1987 The Chamber Music Festival has been hosted in Cesky Krumlov, a small city in the south Bohemian region whose old town and castle district have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What began as a simple classical music festival has evolved into a truly magical musical experience. One of the main attractions is Baroque Night at Cesky Krumlov Castle, which tries to faithfully reconstruct a baroque experience for the participants with the location, the musicians, the repertory, even the food.
The evening begins with music and a toast in the castle’s courtyard. Following the drink guests are led inside for a Baroque themed ball complete with dancing, theatrical performances, and a ballet. The remarkable night ends with a Baroque operatic performance in the castle’s original Baroque Theater, completed toward the end of the 17th century. The theater is unique in that its décor is exactly the same as the day it was completed, providing the perfect atmosphere for the finale.
This is the 28th year for the Chamber Music Festival and it’s not only about classical music. In order to address a wider audience, it also hosts musicians of other musical genres and devotes one concert’s theme to a non-classical performance. Music through the Ages also diversifies the festival encouraging guests to discover different parts of the castle to listen to live music being played on a variety of period as well as contemporary instruments. Other events are the Czech Music Evening, a Jazz performance and an organ concerto.
This is one summer music festival that music connoisseurs shouldn’t miss and will take place from June 27 to July 6.
