DK Travel Guides for the iPad

London City guide for iPad by DKThe Squire loves a good guidebook both for planning a trip as well as when he’s on the road.  Usually, he never has less than two when travelling.  Some guidebooks are great for finding out what to see and do, while others give you sound bites on hotels and restaurants along with practical information.  On the top of the Squire’s guidebook hit list are the DK guides.  They are beautifully designed and insightful and also come with great maps.

Now, from a team of DK award winning editors and designers, comes illustrated multimedia Interactive Travel Guides for the iPad.  Just download these to your iPad before leaving for your trip and you’ll have organized easy to follow illustrated itineraries when you arrive.LondonCityGuideEBook_screen shot

The guides are organized three ways – by day, by interest and by area.  You pick the option that’s best for you.  By day gives you options for enjoying a weekend or three or five day trips.  By interest is tailored to special interests such as history and culture, shopping and family fun.  And last, by area covers the must see sights and includes feature pages that provide context on related topics, such as cultural events, neighborhoods, or local architecture.

The new DK interactive guide has many interactive elements too, including maps with key sights indicated and you can pinch to zoom and scroll for ease of use.  A description of the sites, photo galleries and tours is also included.  There are even videos with aerial views and 360 degree panoramas.

The Squire is psyched about these DK Eyewitness guides for the iPad, as they provide a fun way to explore destinations.  Right now these guides are available for Barcelona, Berlin, London, New York, Paris, Rome, San Francisco and Washington D.C.  You can buy them from iTunes and they’ll download directly to iBooks.
