Do you ever feel like the world has skipped a few years too fast and hasn’t really caught up with itself? As technologically advanced as we think we are, we’re still somehow coming up a little shy. Hey, it’s the 21st century. Shouldn’t we have flying cars by now? Here at Travel Squire, we can’t wait to board the transparent planes and super sleek high-speed jets of the future! Gaze into our crystal ball with us to see what the future of travel holds.
Hypersonic Jets
Meet Airbus’ ZEHST: the Zero Emission High Supersonic Transport jet that’s not only insanely fast but also environmentally friendly. This aircraft will run on biofuel and electricity rather than expensive (and super-polluting) aviation fuel. Speaking of speed, this hot rod can take you from Tokyo to Paris or from Tokyo to Los Angeles in less than two and a half hours. Its helping-hands advanced rocket boosters allow the jet to reach speeds up to Mach 4 or 3,044.82 miles per hour, which is way faster than the old Boeing models. Its design is actually closely related to the speedy Concorde which was retired back in 2003. But, unlike the Concorde, the ZEHST will be virtually silent and less polluting. And, according to the Airbus Group, passengers won’t feel more than mild acceleration forces, so turbulence will be a thing of the past.
Virgin Galactic
Virgin Galactic claims its goal is to create the world’s first commercial spaceline. Only 550 people have ever visited space and Virgin Galactic aim is to increase that number. British tycoon Sir Richard Branson teamed up with Scaled Composites, an American aerospace company, to build SpaceShipTwo which was unveiled in 2009 after the celebrated SpaceShipOne. Can you imagine space vacations being accessible to everyone and anyone who isn’t a NASA astronaut? Well, Virgin Galactic sure can and expects everyone else to embrace it sooner than later. That is, if you have a quarter of a million dollars to spare. Oh, and also if you’re willing to take a risk after SpaceShipTwo’s deadly crash in 2014. That should provide some food for thought for us Earth-dwellers.
Transparent Planes
For all you jetsetters who think you’re ready for perks beyond First Class, Airbus has some seriously innovative plans. The design plans of their new aircraft are based on a bird’s skeleton and will be super efficient. And with cabin walls and the majority of the plane’s body transparent, high-flyers will be able to enjoy a panoramic birds’ eye view of the heavens surrounding them. Just imagine peering into an eternal night sky full of stars rather than heeding the flight attendant’s orders to shut the window shades and lights out. In addition, this airplane’s luxurious seats will adhere to each person’s body, there will be a full bar, relaxation zones to help unwind, and holographic games and entertainment powered by body heat. Too good to be true? Well, plans also call for this plane to be environmentally friendly while reducing noise, waste, and fuel consumption. Of course, those who don’t enjoy a window seat may want to avoid it altogether.
Although Airbus’ designs for the ZEHST hypersonic jet and the transparent plane won’t be available to the public until around 2050, at least we have some fantastic sci-fi novelties to look forward to.
