Gray Line New York’s Winter Wonderland

Whether you’re a first timer in New York or a regular, as a native I can attest that the city is always most lively and fun during the holiday season. My favorite mode of transportation year-round is the bus because you don’t have to deal with the masses in the subway or the high price of taxis. In a bus, you can quickly get from point A to point B and can people watch and window shop too, two staple activities of New York City life.

This holiday season, Gray Line New York is offering a “Winter Wonderland” tour for the first time, something of a holiday surprise! You might have seen these iconic red double deckers the last time you were here, might have heard a loudspeaker reading the names of street corners, or tourists waving hello. They are now combing the streets with a special hop-on, hop-off itinerary for everyone eager to explore the magic of the city during the holidays.

The stops that they’ve chosen are some of my most favorite places to be right now. Check out the Aspen Social Club for its rustic, chic lounge in the heart of Times Square, or Bryant Park’s Holiday Market, where talented vendors sell beautiful ornaments, interesting crafts and unique jewelry. Gray Line will also be stopping at Open House Gallery, one of the most amazing hidden spots where you can pretend to be away from the winter and take a warm break in an indoor park complete with trees, grass and even a reflecting pond!

If this is your first time in New York City, you absolutely cannot miss the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, a revamped version of the 79 year old classic. This year they’re featuring new Rockette performances, musical compositions, dazzling costumes and state-of-the-art technology, and a couple of things 3D where you’ll need those corny glasses.

Last but far from least, my favorite spot in New York, ever, in any season, is now a stop on Gray Line’s Holiday Schedule! Serendipity 3, home of the famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate and many other quirky munchies is not a place to miss. There’s something there for everyone, believe me even if it’s just the over-the-top decorations or the John Cusack movie that catches your eye.

If you find yourself in the Big Apple soon, or even if you live here and want to go on an adventure without leaving home, hop on (and off) the Gray Line’s “Winter Wonderland” tour!

From the editorial staff at TravelSquire.com: why not do it for free?

New York City is expensive – it’s almost as well known for its prices as it is for Broadway theater or the Empire State Building. However, that doesn’t mean that you have to break the bank when visiting – there’s plenty to do to keep you busy without emptying your wallet. These top attractions are worth checking out, and the best part is, they won’t cost you a cent.

Gray Line Tours New York City Holiday Financial District

  • No trip to New York can be considered complete without taking in the activity and excitement of Times Square. One of the most recognizable places in the world, Times Square is the perfect place to take in the bright lights of the big city. And if you do feel like spending a bit of extra cash while you’re there, you can always head over to the TKTS ticket booth, for discounts on a dazzling Broadway performance.
  • If you want a break from hectic Times Square, head over to Central Park, where you’ll forget that you’re even in a city. Go for a walk and admire the beautiful landscaping, or sit and listen to any one of the numerous performers who take up residence throughout the park to sing or play their instruments. You won’t even remember that outside the all the greenery, the crowded streets and honking taxis are waiting for you.
  • If the peace and quiet of Central Park doesn’t appeal to you, you can always head downtown. Take a stroll through New York’s famous Financial District, where you can see historic buildings like the New York Stock Exchange and take a look at where some of our nation’s important financial decisions are made.
  • Finally, take in all the charm and character of New York’s neighborhoods and wander around Soho, Little Italy, or Greenwich Village. These neighborhoods offer great food, great shopping, and are great places to explore without spending a lot of money.
