Hotel Palomar, San Francisco

I’M IN SAN FRANCISCO!  Beautiful views, unique neighborhoods, amazing people, and great spirit; every nook and cranny of this city has its own personality.  After all it is San Francisco’s eccentric and downright strange diversity that defines its culture; mixing together trendy urban professionals, hippy chic fashionistas, hipster grit mixologists, and yoga obsessed health bloggers.  It’s an adventure exploring a city that offers so much.

So, in a city with so many hotels (but many of them lackluster) where do you stay to plan your own SF adventure?  My money’s on the Hotel Palomar, an urban retreat that fits this town to a “T”. Guest Bed at the Palomar

Truly centered on entertainment and located in the heart of downtown, it’s within walking distance of San Francisco’s coolest neighborhoods like SOMA (South of Market) and Chinatown. Not to mention the proximity to Westfield Shopping Center for an impromptu shopping spree. Take a 10 minute stroll and enjoy the vast array of upscale designers and small boutiques.  It’s also a short cab ride over to the trendy Mission District where you can imbibe on the latest concoctions in the cocktail world, to keep you in that SF party spirit, of course.

Palomar Hallway

After a long day come back to your urban sanctuary at the Palomar and collect your thoughts. The modernistic design with a trademark French attitude will put you at ease and create a harmonious balance between mind and body.  Patterned walls are beautifully adorned with simple shapes creating visual stimulation and we can thank Cheryl Rowley, the decorative genius behind it all, for the subtly chic surroundings.  Her signature style employs crafty touches of femininity with delicate accents that all add up thematically to cosmopolitan comfort.

Rooms are spacious and the bath is one-of-a kind too.  Being fantastically oversized you can fully enjoy a dunk in the spa soaking tub, the perfect way to end a day or even start it for that matter.  Relaxed and ready for a snooze, grab an organic snack from the mini bar, get some work done with the incredibly fast WIFI or (if it’s a.m.) head down to the 24/7 fitness center.

A word to the wise:  don’t miss the Fifth Floor Restaurant and Lounge.  Chef David Bazirgan offers modern savory cuisine creations that fuse classic French culinary style with contemporary American ingredients. His menu is distinctive and the presentations simply tres chic!  Try the Marrow Crusted Veal Loin and ask the Sommelier to pair it with a lovely Bordeaux.  Trust me, you’ll have zero regrets.

Palomar Hallway Ambiance

Finding the perfect hotel in an urban destination is never easy. Hotel Palomar surpassed my expectations. Sometimes the location is far from the attractions or the mattress doesn’t measure up or the service is abysmal and the design gives you palpitations.  With the Palomar you can toss these fears out the window.  This is a Kimpton property, a name in hospitality that’s known for making travelers feel welcomed and comfortable away from home.
