And they’re off! The inaugural 2012 Ironman 70.3 competition is scheduled to take place in Mont-Tremblant, Québec, utilizing the natural landscapes and quaint towns as the setting for the rigorous triathlon. Registration for Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant began on September 19th, and the race is slated for June 24th 2012. There will be 30 Age Group qualifying slots to the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3, which will take place on September 9th, 2012, at Lake Las Vegas, in Henderson, NV.
The course is anything but easy for the competitors, a formidable combination of swimming, biking and running. The competition will begin with a 1.2-mile swim at the Beach and Tennis Club. The swim is one big loop, bringing them back to a different part of the shore 300 meters from the transition zone, which is located close to the Quintessence Hotel.
Then come the bikes. Starting off on the Montée Ryan, the bikers get a relatively flat road to begin with. But it wouldn’t be an Ironman competition without some grueling hills, would it? Like at one point on Highway 117, the riders will go from an elevation of 200 meters to 310 meters with a six percent slope. The 56-mile one-loop bike course winds through forest and mountains, and on the return route of the run the athletes head into the town of Lac Supérieur. At that point, the competitors ditch the bikes and hit the ground running.
It’s a race to the finish on the 13.1-mile one-loop run, leading athletes through the Tremblant pedestrian village. If the competitors are truly amazing multi-taskers, they can take in the sights of Chemin du Village, the picturesque old village of Mont-Tremblant, as well as other sites along the route. The course will take athletes across a cascading waterfall alongside beautiful Lake Tremblant then through the Intrawest Club, finally crossing the finish line at the Tremblant Resort.
Whew! What a feat, huh? There are very few things in this world that can handle a competition like this, but Mont-Tremblant is good and ready!
