Langham Place Hotel, Haining

Famous for opening Europe’s first Grand Hotel in 1865, the Langham Hospitality Group has set out to make their mark again with the opening of Langham Place in the historically rich city of Haining, about 75 miles west of Shanghai. With a façade inspired by traditional Chinese windows and latticed screens, Langham Place is the first five-star hotel in China and a distinctive landmark on the city’s skyline.

Translated literally Haining means “sea calming down,” and it was named so in hopes of calming the turbulent tidal waters of the Qiantang River nearby. If the name alone was unsuccessful, the design of the hotel will surely do the job. Sleek contemporary furnishings, marble floors, and a neutral color palette all combine to create chic, calming spaces—every detail exudes a sense of serenity, quickly alleviating any stress.
