“Secluded, but not removed, private, but not regimented” was how the Silverpoint manager described the hotel’s charms to me as I stood on the balcony staring at the azure Caribbean Sea. A few blissful days later I realized that his description perfectly captured the essence of this intimate property. If you are a guest that seeks frequent and organized activities, staff fawning over you with cold towels and nibbles, copious amenities at the ready to purchase by the pool and a DJ spinning the latest tracks then the Silverpoint is probably not for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for privacy, and an ‘away from it all’ stylized atmosphere with peace and quiet, then this is the place.
Silverpoint is a unique boutique property located on the south coast of Barbados, and situated in a secluded area above the white sands of Silver Rock Beach. Although only a 15 minute drive from Barbados’ Grantley Adams Airport, the hotel seems miles away from other hotels and commercial venues. Consisting of 58 guest units, from studios to elegant suites with frontage steps from the surf, its stunning locale where the peaceful Caribbean meets the more tumultuous Atlantic Ocean is a study in contrasts, both calming and invigorating.
Accommodations are lavished with granite and marble, cedar cane faced closets and coral stone accents and come with a host of amenities like flat screen TVs, IPod docking stations and DVD players. All are air conditioned and offer both king and queen sized beds. Additionally, high thread count linens and duvets provide a sublime level of comfort and the fully fitted bathrooms are fixtured with rain showers and translucent glass shower curtains. The gated compound also has 24 hour security, not always the norm in the Caribbean.
The public spaces exude Caribbean chic. A large pool fronting the nearby sea has a private deck furnished with day beds, flowing orange curtains and cabanas abutting a sleek bar and bi-level restaurant. Serving fresh fish and locale fare it’s the antithesis of the all inclusive buffets found at other hotels.
Most visitors to Barbados will find a rental car can be useful. Nevertheless, the property is a mere 15 minutes to the tourist meccas of Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap manageable by taxi and easily arranged through the helpful front desk.
