The Draycott, London

Are you thirsty for some action and a bit of intel?

It’s time to get reacquainted with everyone’s favorite British spy over a drink starting October 25th. In advance of the opening of the new James Bond film “Skyfall”, The Draycott, a landmark hotel in London will be offering guests complimentary martinis every evening after 6 pm along with their nightly champagne service. These libations won’t just be the old gin classic; they will be mixing a very special “Shaken, Not Stirred” version of the famous drink as a nod to the memorable line Sean Connery used in the iconic film “Goldfinger”. The recipe for The Draycott’s special version is top-secret and on a need-to-know only basis, but here at TravelSquire we expect good things from 007, especially when it comes to cocktails.

We do have one recipe we’ve dug up that we can share if you’re feeling the need to get more in touch with your inner secret agent. Bond, portrayed by Daniel Craig in the recent installment of “Casino Royale”, flashed his mixologist credentials in one scene where he created the Vesper Martini.

Vesper Martini:

1 chilled Champagne goblet (or Cocktail Glass)

-3 measures of Gordon’s Gin

-1 measure Vodka

-1/2 measure Kina Lillet (Lillet Blanc)

– Lemon peel for garnish

Mix gin, vodka and Kina Lillet in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously (don’t stir, of course) and strain into a chilled glass garnished with lemon peel.

“Skyfall” comes out in theaters November 9th, 2012 and some of the scenes were shot near the Draycott Hotel. Put on your best Savile Row suit and practice up on your British accent and order one “Shaken, Not Stirred” during your stay at the Draycott.

This special amenity will last only until November 15th.  Don’t worry if you brought the kids; they can enjoy some hot cocoa which the property also offers in the evening.
