The Omphoy Hotel – Palm Beach Redefined
The Omphoy Ocean Resort in Palm Beach, Florida has redefined the classic and exclusive resort destination on Florida’s Gold Coast. Opened in July 2009, the hotel is the creation of owner & designer Leslie Schlesinger (who along with her husband owns the Brazilian Court also in Palm Beach) and is a complete departure from Palm Beach as we know it.
More Indonesian than Palm Beach, this boutique oceanfront property (the first new one in Palm Beach in twenty years), exudes exoticism and tranquility (with a touch of South Beach). This balance of modern, sophisticated design with a sense of Zen is what makes the hotel so unique…and such an escape from the typical Palm Beach scene. The hotel was envisioned around what is described as the “luminescence and movement of water,” which is felt upon entering the main lobby, where a Koi fish pond and a dramatic, cascading water wall entertain arriving guests. All throughout the public spaces are subtle infusions of earth-friendly details. However, the evocation of calm is best experienced in the hotel’s Exhale Spa, the Palm Beach outpost of the New York City spa, best known for its signature Core Fusion series.
Celebrity chef and 2008 James Beard Foundation Award winner, Michelle Bernstein, of Miami’s acclaimed Michy’s and Sra. Martinez has also found a place at The Omphoy. The restaurant is frequently fully booked and has naturally become a huge draw for Palm Beach locals.
The Omphoy is first and foremost a luxury hotel. All 134 rooms have direct views of the Atlantic Ocean or the Intercoastal Waterway, are furnished with custom, dark ebony wood furniture, concealed with chic Oriental blinds, and maintain the same unpretentious Zen design qualities found throughout. There are 2 special suites, the 1,100 square feet Thai Suite and the Om Suite available for $1,600 per night during high season.
The Omphoy is more than the newest hotspot in Palm Beach, it is a sanctuary, and a very bold move.
