The first thing you notice as you walk into the Standard Spa on Miami Beach is the incredible view of Biscayne Bay. Ideally located off the main drag of Miami Beach’s Collins Avenue on a quiet patch of land that fronts the Venetian Causeway, the spa is the Standard Hotel’s oasis and it’s distanced from the hustle and bustle of South Beach. The hotel stands out in more ways than one. Guests checking in may expect to see Sinatra and the Rat Pack or Elvis sitting at the bar. The Standard pulls off modernist Scandinavian design in a way that is authentic and sophisticated, not kitschy or contrived. As a result, the atmosphere is calming and escapist, one where guests are transported to a whole other world. Local residents and visitors to Miami who are not staying at the hotel can take advantage of the Standard’s amenities by booking a treatment at the Spa or reserving a day pass which allows access to the property’s pool and hydrotherapy treatments.
At the Standard Spa attendants warmly greet you and give you a fluffy robe and slippers. Chill out to the cool, calm vibe with music played by a live DJ as you head towards the treatment rooms. Choose a luxurious essential nutrient facial designed to pamper, hydrate and nourish. Your face will be drenched with a blend of active botanical ingredients including soy phospholipids and vitamins A, C and E that penetrate and hydrate deep levels of the epidermis. Next, the face, neck and décolleté are gently massaged with hot and cold dermal globes and the décolleté, chest and arms are gently exfoliated with citrus lavender sea salts. The treatment continues with a nourishing mask containing grape seed extract, beta glucan and wheat amino acids. A warm mask of fragrant essential oils and sea algae is then applied to the chest, neck and arms. This treatment is heavenly and will leave your skin glowing.
Afterwards, you can relax and detox in the Hammam, a delightful Turkish bath experience, which must be tried. The incredible Hammam is modeled after the ancient Turkish and Roman baths where men and women lounged together in a communal area, (bathing suits required). Channel your inner Zen in the cedar sauna or hydrate in the aroma steam room followed by a cold rain shower. You’ll certainly be invigorated after a single ritual, but for optimal results, you’re encouraged to take your time and repeat this multiple times. After a few hours in the Hammam, you can slowly wander through the lush gardens towards the pool. Take a plunge in the infinity pool, located directly on the bay, where the state of the art underwater jet therapy and ozonized water without chlorine will refresh and revitalize you. To fully experience the Spa’s bathing sacrament, take a soak in the Roman waterfall hot tub or try the mud bath. In addition to the indoor fitness rooms, yogis can practice on the sunset yoga deck. After catching a few rays poolside, make sure to watch the sunset over the bay. At the Standard Spa, it feels as if, at least for today, the sun has set on all our worries and stress.
