Vieux-Québec in Period Costume
*With contributions by Rachel Petzinger
Hark back to the days of yore and traverse through the ramparts of Vieux-Québec with a 17th century member of New France as your guide. Walk the motorcycle-banned streets, explore the castles and buildings from the 1600’s, and emerge yourself into the serene, settling years of Québec.
In layman’s terms, consider taking a tour that will be reminiscent of your seventh grade Renaissance fair—where everyone dresses up and has fun learning something new!
Be informed and entertained for two hours as you walk the cobblestone streets and climb the stairs to the upper town of Old Québec.
One of four types of Old Québec historical figures will be your tour guide. You’ll get to follow either a farmer, a woodsman, an upper-class woman, or one of the single girls King Louis invited to Québec long ago to ensure French men that in Québec they would get married.
Two different tours are offered from June 3rd to October 9th, rain or shine. The first tour begins at the Parc des Gouverneurs and the second will be given at the Hôtel du Vieux-Québec. Some of the sites included along the route are the National Assembly and Parliament Hill, the Château Frontenac, and Notre Dame de Québec basilica. Tours are offered in both English and French.
A festive Christmas tour of Vieux-Québec is scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays in December when participants will get to taste holiday foods of the region. Beginning December 24th the tours will go daily through January 2.
*Next year in 2012, Cicerone Tours of Vieux-Québec will extend the season one additional week, beginning in June and finishing on October 15th.
