Hotel Mediterraneo
Looking for an escape from the long winter? Dream of roaming “under the Tuscan sun” but feel overwhelmed by summer’s masses of tourists? The Squire has the solution for you. With discounts of over 50% off rack rates, Bettoja Hotels offers winter visitors fantastic nightly rates on their properties in Rome and Florence. Deals last through March 14, 2011 – the perfect time for an early spring break getaway.
The Bettoja Hotels are the largest family owned group in Italy with four properties in Rome and one location in Florence. All Rome hotels (Hotel Mediterraneo, Hotel Massimo D’Azeglio, Hotel Atlantico and Hotel Nord) share a central location within walking distance of Rome’s tourist attractions; including the Coliseum, Opera House, via Veneto, and the Spanish steps. The hotels are also only one block from the Termini train station, where one can take the 30 minute train that links Fiumicino International Airport to the city center. Their Florence property, Hotel Relais Certosa, is housed in a traditional Italian villa just 10 minutes from the city center by hotel shuttle.

ROME
Hotel Atlantico was built in 1912 and is located on Esquiline Hill – the highest of Rome’s seven hills, providing a nice view of the city. It is internally connected to Hotel Mediterraneo – built in 1936, with which it shares the 21 Restaurant. Fans of Italian modernist films will love the views from the Hotel Mediterraneo – in addition to sights of traditional Roman scenery such as the dome of St. Peter’s, some rooms offer views of the EUR – the setting of Antonioni’s L’Eclisse (The Eclipse).
Hotel Massimo D’Azeglio has the most history of the Bettoja Rome locations. Maurizio Bettoja first bought the building’s ground floor in 1875 to house a restaurant, when his son, Angelo, suggested an accompanying hotel. The family soon bought the rest of the building, subsequently transforming it to a hotel in 1878. During its tenure, the Hotel Massimo D’Azeglio has witnessed a number of notable historical figures pass through its doors, from Mussolini to Pasolini and as well as Fausto Coppi and Louis Armstrong.
Hotel Nord is the newest of the Rome locations, having been built in 1935 and recently renovated. The hotel offers soundproof rooms and modern amenities, while maintaining its original 1930’s style.
FLORENCE
Hotel Relais Certosa is located just outside of Florence’s city center, situated on 6 acres of land covered by olive trees and cypresses. The villa was originally built in 1400, but began serving as a hotel in 1975. A stay at the Relais Certosa is sure to be relaxing, with tennis courts and a swimming pool as well as a bar and restaurant. The Ponte Vecchio can be reached in a mere 10 minutes, courtesy of the hotel’s free shuttle service for guests.
